First off, let me apologize if this belongs on another board, but I didn't see any place else more appropriate for introductions.  Name's Motörek, mind the umlaut, but don't pronounce it.  I've fought in LARP groups all over the country, but I'll soon be moving back home.  Thing of it is, home has moved a little.  I used to live in Damascus, MD, which would have been great distance-wise from Hagerstown, but now I'll be located out of Ranson, WV, which from looking at a map might be about equal driving distance.  From consulting the Amtgard wiki, I can't find any other groups in WV that are within an hour's drive, so I figured the Crystal Groves Kingdom will be my most likely point of contact.

I have never actually participated in Amtgard combat before, and I don't know the board rules concerning the mentioning of other games, so I'll refrain from it, suffice to say I'm not foreign to the use of magic and abilities, but not very well versed in it, either.  I look forward to learning more about it when I'm local again.

My main question right now is about how active Crystal Groves is.  I see that your one Kingdom is composed of several smaller groups from Delaware through Maryland, but I'm guessing people from DE don't drive out to every event.  And for that matter, does each group hold independent events?  Dpes the "main" group in Hagerstown see high attendence for their events?  How often are practices?

And finally, the whole social structure looks like it's pretty rigid in Amtgard.  Is this a fair assesment?  I travel a lot and it's really a pain in the ass for me to have to do the whole pledge/squire thing and commit to a single unit.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

We're pretty active.  As of right now our numbers are pretty low, bad weather the last couple of weeks have led to a pretty small turnout.  We meet every sunday with people showing up around 1pm.  We typically play until around 5 during the winter months.  You're more then welcome to come out, and hopefully have a good time.
